Wildtours Ghana Highlights

In February 2020, Wild Tours Limited was fortunate to host a group of 25 African-Americans on three epic tours in Ghana which included visits to: Shai Hills/Akosombo, Cape Coast, and a Village Experience.

Elmina Castle

Shai Hills / Akosombo

The group hiked and explored Shai Hills, the former home of the Shai people, took a tour of the Akosombo Dam, and had a filling lunch on the Dodi Cruise on the Volta Lake.

Cape Coast

The tour continued with in-depth visits to Elmina Castle and Cape Coast Castle. The day was filled with tears and raw emotions culminating with an eerie night time visit to Cape Coast Castle. All our guests (minus one) were first-time visitors to the castles. The experience was life-changing and eye-opening for all. A visit to Cape Coast is a must for every visitor whether white or black to learn the history of the slave trade and understand why the world must never return to that evil.

The group which was made up mostly of residents from the state of Texas, enjoyed their time in Ghana with Wild Tours. See pictures below for some highlights.

Our group looking down the water cistern in the courtyard of the female dungeon at Elmina Castle. Female slaves were stripped naked, lined up, and bathed while the governor of the “castle” watched. He would then make his selection from the group and the chosen female slave would be sent to his chambers for the night.

Akramaman Village Tour

Wild Tours provided a once in a lifetime experience for our guests by curating a village immersion tour just for them. They spent the day with the Akramaman village and met with the village chief, elders, chief priests and residents. The experience included a welcome celebration by the villagers, a cooking class, and drumming lessons. The group also came prepared with donations for the village schoolchildren. It was certainly an unforgettable and life-changing experience for all participants.
